TJPE judge addresses the use of Artificial Intelligence in the Judiciary during the III CIVENI, in the USA Alexandre Freire Pimentel, judge of the Pernambuco Court of Justice (TJPE), was one of the highlights of the III International Congress on Innovation, Education, and New Technologies (III CIVENI), held by Veni Creator Christian University on December 11, 12, and 13 in Celebration, Florida, USA.
During the event, the magistrate gave a lecture on “Algorithmization of the law and the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence by the Judiciary: diagnosis of risks and benefits based on the experience of MAIA AI in Brazil,” in which he presented reflections on the incorporation of advanced technologies into the justice system. In his presentation, Alexandre Freire Pimentel discussed how algorithmization can contribute to greater efficiency, standardization, and speed in judicial proceedings, while also highlighting the necessary precautions regarding transparency, ethics, data protection, and mitigation of algorithmic biases. “The use of Artificial Intelligence in the Judiciary must go hand in hand with ethics, transparency, and institutional responsibility, ensuring that technology is an ally in promoting justice, and not a risk factor to fundamental rights,” he said.
The judge also brought up in his explanation the experience of the MAIA AI platform, developed and applied in the judiciary of the state of Pernambuco, highlighting practical results, challenges faced, and institutional learnings. Freire also reinforced the relevance of the international debate on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in the Judiciary, aligning technological innovation with the preservation of fundamental rights and legal certainty.
The III CIVENI brought together experts from various countries to discuss trends, research, and applications of new technologies in strategic areas such as education, innovation, and justice.
