Second day of Civeni and Human X in Orlando, FL
On this Thursday, November 21st, the second day of the synchronous II Civeni and Human X took place. This day was marked by great lectures, presentations, and testimonies.
The activities began in the early hours of the morning with opening speeches led by the successful businesswomen Dr. Acilina Candeia, CEO of Veni Creator Christian University and responsible for the II Civeni, and Verônica Ferreira Braga, CEO of VFB Health Insurance, both platinum sponsors of Human X.
After the lectures started, the event welcomed Luiz Martins, Representative of the Mayor of Orlando, Mr. Buddy Dyer, who addressed the importance of talking about the issue of human trafficking. Next, Dr. Anna Dias-Lazaro, Founding President of Hope and Justice and responsible for the I Human X, delivered a speech on “The connection between human trafficking and domestic violence and child sexual abuse”.
Ambassador João Lucas Quental, Brazilian Consul in Orlando, FL, addressed the topic: “Relations between Brazil and the USA in the fight against human trafficking”. Following the lectures, Dr. Rafael S. Cezar and Dr. Eloy Pereira Lemos Júnior, both doctors from Veni Creator, addressed the topics: “A request for refuge for a complex case of domestic violence and child sexual abuse – Brazilian cases of convictions for rape of vulnerable women and bill 3.127/19 on chemical castration of rapists”. Dr. Wilka Vilela, Judge of TJPE, also spoke at the event on the topic: “Domestic violence and comparative law”, concluding the morning’s activities.
The afternoon session began with the testimony of the survivor Bianca Toledo, who spoke about the challenges she faced and how she overcame them. After this point, the event began with a debate led by Eliane Schlight, a psychologist representing Women Distress, who spoke about psychological trauma in victims of domestic violence.
Luiza Brunet, Lana Braga Carli, and Vanessa Campos presented the topic “Domestic violence and overcoming” in a debate where all women mentioned had been victims of domestic violence and overcome it. Maria da Penha and Regina Célia, respectively President and Co-founder of the Maria da Penha Institute, also participated in a hybrid format of the II Civeni, speaking about “The rights of victims of domestic violence under the Maria da Penha law”.
The day ended with Dr. Cleyde Crofoot, a volunteer psychologist at Hope and Justice, who spoke about her perspective on combating domestic violence through psychological and educational interventions. On the occasion, there was an official and solemn delivery of the legislative proposal for a bill to reform the violence law.
All speeches were attended by the moderators: Patrícia Carvalho, Rose Newll, Dr. Pryscilla Carvalho, Dr. Carlos Hees, Dr. Flávia Salum, Dr. Edson Silva, Dr. Vinicius Bicalho.
